I have a few gun stocks I plan to refinish this winter. Thinking of woodburning a simple design or perhaps initials in one of them. Any tips or tricks to doing this?
I plan to stain the stocks and then coat with tung oil. Should I do the woodburning and then stain, or stain and then woodburn?

I wanted to get a semiauto rifle or two for each family member while it is still possible to do so. Having young daughters I was afraid if I waited we might miss the boat so all of my children have their own now and when old enough to make some decisions they can choose what they want to do with them to personalize and accessorize them.

My middle daughter "critter" had made some decisions that really surprised me. I got her a npap and told her we could burn it and she could put anything she wanted on it. Being only 7 I figured scooby doo would top the list. To my surprise she chose to do "cool" (her words) stuff to it. We fly the Gadsden flag high here so that was in the mix. Plus she loves snakes. The rifle was purchased with fur money and her favorite thing to trap is bobcats. After surfing the net we found the helmet, poison ivy, barbwire and malon labe.

I gave her the finished product this morning and she's tickled pink. I might post picks of her with it a little later......
