A few weeks ago, I took off honey from my hives. I had about 70 gallons of honey, 800 + pounds. When I cleaned up and rendered the wax cappings from this load, I had about 6-7 pounds of beeswax. You don’t get much. I sell it for $10 a pound. Candlemakers, beauty product makers, wood workers, and bullet casters are the big buyers.

 

I've always had bees wax on hand for at least the last 45 years or so and use it for a multitude of things, especially black powder/buck skinning related.

 

I use it in my string building wax for my recurve strings. Looks like I need to mix up another batch.

 

Wow, you must go through a lot of wax. Do you mix anything with the wax?

 

I don't fill the entire mold...maybe enough for 6-8 and when they start looking like this, I throw them on the pile to be melted down again. Yes, I mix wax from a toilet flange ring (a new one lol), which makes it tacky and easier to work with. I don't know, maybe 60/40 but not real careful about that.
