Hunting big tracts of public affords the hunter the ability to move around. They do react to our intrusion. That said, a few other things I think that have arisen in this thread. I agree that deer aren’t as in tune with our intrusions as some of us think. I‘m basically in the middle between yinzer and Fairchild positions on the issue. Yellow dog avoids stands where deer can come from anywhere. If I did that I would have no where to hunt. Deer can and will come from anywhere when you are surrounded by several thousand acres of woods. I attempt to increase my odds by playing the wind and having my scent blowing to where I think deer are least likely to come from and facing where I think they are most likely to be coming from. Spoiler alert. It doesn’t always work out as planned. I have the additional handicap of hunting off the ground.
