Found her. She went about 80 yd. Nice mature doe. I set a new blind about 25 yards from a solitary red oak tree that is dropping like crazy and tons of deer poop under it. Four came in at 5:15. They knew the blind was new and were a little spooky but they settled down and I got a perfect shot. Its nice when you get back home before dark. Realized then I left my quiver in the blind. At least I hope that is where I left it.

 

My daughter smoked a nice 8 Friday evening. Her first archery deer. Proud Dad.

Man, had an interesting hunt tonight. Ended up seeing nine does and a small buck. I had two big does at 30 yards but where I'm hunting I just wont shoot that far. Had 6 fawns that all were at or under 20 yards of course.

 

Saw 5 doe/fawns, all underneath me less than 10 yds, and right at last light, a nice shooter came out, about 80yds down the ridge from me. Unfortunately, he only came to about 60 yds before turning and going the other way. Couldn't tell points or anything, just enough of a glance with the binocs to see mass, spread and height to put the binocs down and try and get ready if he comes my way.

 

Saw 4 does yesterday. 2 were in shooting range, but I wasn't "ready" on the first one. The second (though it came to see me, while the other 2 watched), was too small at 10 yds. I'll get my first (ever) one of these days.

 

Just put an arrow through a doe. It's been about 20 minutes. Gonna go have a look.

 

Just checking in now . Opening morning I had a 3 point , a spike and two doe in bow range but decided to give the doe a pass due to having to take my son to football practice and a wedding later that day .
Sunday morning I didn’t see a deer .
Yesterday I didn’t hunt but saw a really nice buck while driving around and another decent buck was feeding behind my house on acorns . Two doe were feeding with him .
Not sure if I will hunt at all this week due to being on call for work .

 

I was out for a while yesterday in the hopes that the future radar was correct and that the rain would pass just north of me. I hunted two hours, passed on a small doe that looked like this year's fawn and saw a small 6 or 8 point before getting washed out.

 

I hunted for a couple of hours this morning before it started to rain. Nothing moving but squirrels. We don't get rain for weeks and the early season starts and we're getting rain every day. I'm trying to plan around the weather the best I can.

 

Hunted last evening. Saw 13 deer in about 2 1/2 hours. Missed a doe at what I thought was 30 yards. Shot under her.

 

Rain is supposed to get out of here this afternoon. If it does, I will be out. Not sure where yet. That will depend on the wind direction. I am having a heck of a time with trail cameras this year. Between 2 of my 6 crapping the bed and me forgetting to turn some on, I have a few stands with zero intel.

windy.com Looks to be blowing that way right now. Hoping those few straggler bands on radar fall apart and the forecast for a few scattered T storms this evening is incorrect. Want to go back to the spot I hunted Tuesday night but, I don't want to burn and area out. Made that mistake last year and trying to be hyper cognizant of wind and rotating locations and stand sites at particular locations this year.

 

All settled in by a white oak. Camera slowed down since Tuesday. Two groundhogs enjoying the acorns at the moment.

 

Had another pretty good evening. I ended up seeing 11 doe and a six-point. Almost had a 20 yard shot on a big doe but she never stepped where I needed her to.

 

Back in the stand I was opening day. Didnt bump anything coming in. Red and black oaks a dropping.

 

Drew my first blank of the year. Nada, nothing, zilch....... Back at it in the morning.

 

Im in at a 5c farm. Nothing yet besides acorns and squirrels.

 

My anxiety has been horrible this week (been basically a week long panic attack). As such I didn’t make it out today. Hope for a better week next week. Good luck to those of you that are out.

 

So much for the rain clearing at 4. Its pouring now and the roof of my blind collapsed and tore. I have a stick inside propping up the roof. Thats the lowlight. I have seen three does so far and could have shot a little one so thats the bright side.

 

Can't wait for this rain to let up so I can get out this weekend!

 

I’ll be out for my first sit tomorrow evening after work. Excited to get back in the tree! I’m thinking about shooting a doe to scratch the itch.

 

Out this morning for a few hours. Jumped one going in and a doe came by once I was set up, but I didn't get a good shooting lane. Only thing moving were squirrels after that. Maybe getting out later this afternoon.

 

Last evening was a bust for me.

This morning brought nothing but frustration. I hunted a new spot. Saw a lone doe sauntering past about 10 yards from the landowner's house and well out of range. Then 6 does come running up through the valley behind me, obviously very spooked. Minutes later, 2 more does from the other side of the valley run past, again very spooked. The mystery solved itself quickly as a big coyote followed the last two does. I would have been able to shoot the coyote, but here I had forgot to recharge my rangefinder and it was giving me false readings. Saw one more doe well out of range later. Bailed at 9:20 to regroup and recharge both me and my rangefinder.
