Ask my wife about me and hunting packs and she will likely roll her eyes. I’ve had a few that were “the one”. And weren’t.
Last year, I was using a Mystery Ranch “Treehouse” pack. It’s a good pack and it has its uses. I get to hunt a lot, especially in archery season. And I my hunts are 2-4 hour affairs. I don’t need a lot. The Treehouse can hold a fair bit of stuff which means it can also take a small amount of stuff so I committed to it.
Its good, but I felt like it was too much pack for most of my sits.
At deer camp in flintlock season, I saw a fellow hunter with the Sitka Sling Choke pack and it looked pretty darn nice.
Over the summer I eyeballed them at Cabela’s and getting hands on one confirmed my interest was well founded. While it’s made for waterfowl hunting, it’s a great short sit pack.
Having a few weeks of bow season in now, I gotta say, I love this pack.
I can carry my small kit bag with my license/tag and assorted field dressing and deer recovery items, space for my rangefinder, spare headlamp batteries, thermacell and refills, and room for a jacket as a spare layer.
The outside is really well laid out and I can securely lash my gel seat cushion and bow holder.
Everyrhing is organized and secure (a serious pet peeve of mine is something flopping or rattling in or on my gear while I’m moving). I grab it and go. No checking for things… it’s in there.
If/when I need more space and move to the bigger pack, the kit bag has to move with my license and recovery items and then I pack my other needed things and I’m set.
About the only reason I’ll want or need the larger bag is to take warm layers so I don’t overheat when walking in. Other than that, the Sling Choke has become my go-to.
Just figured I’d share. I get nothing from this. I’m not a “brand ambassador” nor an influencer. Just passing on a good experience with some gear.
