Decided to fish mid river, behind the museum. Got to my spot ridiculously early anticipating large crowds. Glad I got there early because it filled right up with ppl not long after.
Heard maybe 10-15 fish pushing up before legal fishing time. No movement once it started getting light. River still super low, running at 185cfs.
Seemed to be a decent amount of fish in the hole by the island I always fish. Had about 8 hookups in the first hour or so and landed one. After that I had a great time hooking fish and handing my rod off to some young fisherman around me. One of the youngsters managed to land his first salmon. That made my day.
On a side note I witnessed one of the more humorous scenes I’ve observed on the river over the years. I saw several Asian women chasing down salmon using nets, none even had a fishing rod. 🙄 they managed two 🤣. Until next time, Tight Lines

lol the SR, never disappoints. Rarely do you fish there without a story. I would love to have a video of the time I watched a guy cock back and whip another fisherman accross the face with his fly rod, over a fishing spot. Then both of them threaten to kill each other. Couple of out of shape dudes in there 50’s huffing and puffing chest bumping each other like they were bad hahahaha. We laughed so hard at them we were in tears…

I was up there Saturday thru Tuesday and I mirrored what Beagler reported. We started at the long bridge and at the top of the staircase. Very low water and the amount of people up along the stair case was ridiculous. It's amazing that any fish make it up river through that bottle neck and the amount of people throwing at them. I should have taken a few pics showing the tents, grilles and chairs set up on the gravel bar in the middle of the staircase but my brother and I had two new people with us fishing the SR for the 1st time and I (my brother was too busy fishing :)) was teaching technique and retying leaders so they could stay ready for any passing fish.
Sunday we fished up river from Ellis Cove by the diversion and had good success there along with a guide friend who was guiding some clients that day. Monday we were in the DSR and had a great day. The weather was hot so I wet waded that day for the 1st time and I am now a huge fan of that on hot days and low water levels.
