I enjoy still hunting and typically hold my rifle against my chest at the ready. But I also have elbow issues and now a rotator cuff issue in one shoulder so fatigue sets in after a while. I have a traditional shoulder sling on my rifle but was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a sling more conducive to still hunting. I think I'm looking for "safari" type sling?

Safari slings are good for keeping the firearm in a semi ready position while still hunting and also for easy use of your binoculars. But, after a long day or sometimes even just several hours of hunting using the safari sling it will make my back ache. The safari sling is not as good while dragging a deer either. I have both a safari and conventional sling in my back pack and use one or the other sometimes depending on the situation at the time and the firearm I am using.

I really like the safari sling with the flintlock because it allows both hands for using my binoculars. Most of the firearms deer season though I don't use any sling on my rifle while still hunting or on stand. Slings just make more movement for deer to pickup with their flopping around. I normally just use the cradle carry with the rifle on my right side and shooting stick cradled on the left side. That also allows me to keep my hands in the side pockets of my coat where the handwarmers are. That makes for a pretty handy and easy still hunt combination.

Have you ever used a single point sling? that will keep the rifle in the front ready to go. Although depending on what rifle you use that might be awkward with a longer rifle. Maybe check out slings geared towards PRS. We run longer barreled rifles alot of times with suppressors. The slings keep the rifle in the front and theyre made for people on the move.
