Thank you for the link, DennyF. I guess that answers my question. I agree 59Willys, hard to believe there's 3000 wild pigs running around and you don't hear about guys shooting or running into them. Initially the Game Commission was ecstatic about completely eliminating them. I've hunted them in southern states as well as warthogs and bushpigs in Africa, and to a person they say once they have a foothold they're a permanent fixture and will expand their ranges rapidly. I would think 3000 would be a foothold???

a few years back some wild pigs escaped from a game preserve east of Butler. All were shot within a short period of time. The last known one was shot about 1 1/2 mile from the preserve(on property owned by an acquaintance).

Years ago they released wild boars as part of the Forksville Bow Festival. While some would make it through the festival hunt, I never heard of any making it past buck season. It wasn't uncommon for area hunters to shoot them in deer season. I think they only released males, to avoid establishing a population.

thats not legal !!

i didnt think you were allowed to release non-native species into the wild, especially hogs. could be wrong though, its happened before, not many times but a few :)

It was a Bow Festival attraction for many years but it has been many years since they did it.
