I would start by looking at the township ordinances. I personally would not have a problem with it as long as it was constructed properly and was not in front of my front porch lol. Maybe you should talk with them and see exactly what they have planned.

I bet ya they thought of that but would mean carrying all the gear 100 yds.

 

Don't know how your lines are laid out,but you could calmly discuss the safety zone laws.
Ten and seven acres really are not that big against one another depending how the buildings are laid out.
Just be calm and talk.

If there is a chance you will somewhere on your property and they will shooting into it where you maybe standing I would think the local authorities could put a stop to it. Crazy people with no common sense.

 

I wouldn't be to fond of that idea either if I was in the position you are. I don't understand why the would want to do that in the first place, it seems to that it isn't necessary and could potentially be dangerous. Try talking to them and express your concerns and maybe a solution can be made.

 

Are you side by side ? If so maybe suggest a shared bench right on the line firing away from the buildings . Might end up a good thing as a joint venture . Good luck.

I have camp neighbors that do not appreciate any "extra" shooting. They live about 500 yards up the twp. gravel road from my place.

They're permanent residents and think it's okay for them to go out back and shoot at woodchucks, sight-in rifles and take a whack during deer season when the opportunity arises - but they get cranky if I take a semi rifle to camp and burn up much ammo.

Not just me, anyone at a camp within their earshot, even guys a half mile across the valley who like to bring ARs and make lots of racket.

 

I mean let's all be honest here, that's a dick move. Any person with any sort of head on their shoulders would fave the gun range into the woods not facing any camps or homes. If I couldn't do that I wouldn't have a gun range. It's that easy. I would def have a polite conversation with him.

 

If a calm and courteous adult conversation with your new neighbor does not yield the desired results, you may want to advise them that there are PA Crimes Code sections that may be applied. For instance:

While applying this section may be somewhat of a stretch, it is often used by LEOs with the desired results being the introduction of a person to the judicial process in Pennsylvania. Usually gets their attention, and some behavior modification !

I think it's a pretty good answer when somebody makes a matter of fact, in your face statement like the wife did. Honestly how'd they think he would react? "Hey neighbor, we're going to be target shooting our rifles towards your property. Yee haw!"

 

Polite conversation 1st. After that if they do as they were saying wait till it is complete and drop a little garden shed right by the property line and boom they are in violation of a safety zone.

I guess you are right, the safety zone does only apply to hunting. I guess you would just have to check local laws and ordinances and hope you can find some help there.

 

I have a question for anybody in the know. I have neighbors that we share prpoerty lines. I have 10 acres and they have 7. Within the first 2 minutes of meeting them they (the wife) informs me that they are going to make a rifle range that will be facing my property with the back stop at the property line. Well my responce was "no your not!" Question If they make the rifle range and shoot towards my property line what recourse do I have?

You say they want the backstop on the property line and that they'd be shooting towards your property. You don't say what the topography is, whether there's any danger of doing so(direct or indirect line of fire to your camp, etc.) or if there's even any real risk involved here.

You also have to realize that virtually every time someone shoots they are shooting 'towards' someone else property.

Is what they described for a range the safest option available?

Are you just upset that they'd be shooting toward your property?
