What about cameras is attractive to bears? I had just put a camera out early September and within a couple days a bear goes by and pulls it down. Just ripped it off the tree. So all I got for the next month was pictures of branches swaying in the breeze. Stupid things.

I believe it is the smell of batteries. Especially when they are working over time or nearing depletion, they have a sweet smell to them that I can detect without even opening the door.

A buddy of mine just had a bear bite his camera on the tree. Smashed the lens and the sensors.

To aid in concealment, I used to attach the cams to the tree with 1/4" threaded studs and use the inserts molded into the back of the cam. Bad idea, the bear can just rip it easily off as the plastic just busts out. I now use the straps that come with the cams as they spread the pulling force over a much greater area.

Has it taken a picture since?
Not yet. Over an hour ago. There was four of them.

You’re going to be buying a new one……
Maybe, maybe not.

I get three or four of these pics every fall. I had to replace an antenna back in spring gobbler season. But I haven’t had one destroyed in the last two seasons.

Bears use to mess with my cameras all the time. I started wiping them down with scent free wipes along with my hands and problem solved. Few weeks ago, I forgot my scent wipes in truck and I feared a bear would mess with my cam… sure enough, that was only cam that bear messed with in last 5 years.

Got some bears on trail cams at camp. Never had one messed with. When we were hunting out of the camper it was never messed with. Camera on my shooting shack showed bear at 3’. Shack is covered with coroplast and hasn’t been messed with. Bound to happen. One of the camera pics from last week has an up close and personal pic of bear like the first one. Need to go thru the sd cards and find it tomorrow.

Bears have completely shredded a half dozen or more pop up blinds over the years. Some were totaled, others had fabric tore and rods broke. Some just got flattened, but were still usable. The blind I hunted Saturday morning was like that.

Ive had two seats chewed off my Summit Viper climbers. Had to replace both.

Cameras? Ive lost track. Some just get knocked off the tree. Some had their antennas chewed off. A few were bitten to pieces. Two of them, the bear took off with them, never found them.

sounds like a good bear "bait"

use a pop up blind and a trail camera, wait for the bear to show...sounds easy

wonder what attracts bears to cameras and blinds

Did you eat Cheetos or a roast beef sandwich or something before touching your camera to put it up? I’m only half way joking, in Utah we could put critter lick or similar minerals out for trail cams. We were putting the critter lick down before putting the camera up, and got a bunch of pictures of elk licking the cameras 😂 I assume they could somehow sense some critter lick residue on it.. it was only the ones we put the mineral out before putting the camera up!
