Fall turkey

From the 1980s through about 2003 we hunted fall turkey religiously when it was still open in 2F the week prior to bear season. We would hunt fall turkey Thursday, Friday and Saturday then rested up Sunday and hunted bear Monday and Tuesday. That was one of my favorite trips to the mountains. We usually filled our tags by busting up flocks and then calling them in. Sometimes we'd track them in the snow and that was always fun. The last fall turkey I shot was a gobbler that I tracked in the snow and flushed up.

Lots of guys in camps back in those days doing the same. There was a good group of guys from Mercer we'd always run into at the local watering hole and tip a few. Sad but I'm sure there all gone by now. Sure miss those old days!

If there any relatives of those Mercer guys their camp was located in Elk county just off rt 66 near the Dancin at the Nancin bar 5 miles south of Kane.
