I know it's been discussed on here before the pros and cons of invasives similar to autumn olive, so I'm not going to get into that. I have about 5 acres that was stripped 15 years ago and is starting to get overrun with autumn olive, and it's on a hillside/hilltop and I'd like to be able to mow some areas and keep them grasses. If I wanted to try and manage it's growth and spread, would you start at the top and work your way down. Assuming that birds would spread seeds and more likely to drop seed when flying downhill? Also, would the hack and squirt method be better than cutting and painting, assuming that I eventually wanted to be able to mow the area again? Also, I've read that when the sap starts to flow again would be the best time for hack and squirt, when would that be roughly? Finally, if after I cut them down, I piled them and burned them, would I risk putting the seeds airbourne and spreading them?
Thanks for advice in advance.
