DIY Grass for Layout Blinds

A real step up on the waterfowl blinds. In the old days we simply dyed burlap feed sacks to make a blanket and to lay on we coated burlap bags with paraffin an attempt to keep dry..... then used sheets in the snow. We even came up with the idea to dye snow blue in an attempt to make the waterfowl think there was open water.....when the lakes were frozen....

We once made a wooden stand platform blind in a lake when the water was low. We made the platform high enough so at normal water level we could pull our john boat under the platform to hide away. We placed burlap and corn stalks around the perimeter to break up the outline. It worked very well for mallards and a few wood ducks.....The bigger flocks of geese would tend stay with the bigger part of the lake; however, occasionally they would make our day by flying over our blind to the nearby corn fields.......One has to get creative as a waterfowl hunter...
