I use a few scents. I think all of them work to a degree. I’ve used those smoke stick that I’ve watched deer some right in to sniffing the wind. I’ve used doe in heat lure that I had bucks come right in to. I used active scrape in drip bags over a mock scrape that had plenty of deer check it.
Last year though I noticeably seen more deer not using that stuff than I did when I did use it. I think it has a lot to do with pressure. A lot of hunters in sn area using that stuff equals less deer. No hunters in the area using it and you’re the only one it works very well.

I met Smokey of Smokey's deer lures a few years back and was impressed with his approach and knowledge. I didn't try his lures until a couple of years ago and I am now a fan of his preorbital gland lure as it is not synthetic and is in a glass container. I have used it two years now on my mock scrapes, it get the activity started quickly and it does bring them in. I have several hundred pictures of deer all ages making repeated stops to rub on my grape vines and to lick/chew on the branches.

I have used and still use active scrape on some of my scrapes via the dripper. It has worked for several years.

I don't want to be a sour apple here, but iv'e heard for years that a lot of deer lure makers gathered urine from multiple deer and stored it in a community container whether that made it less or more attractive, but they have to ad a preservative or it will be rancid in a few days

My Buddy and I attended Smokey’s seminar out Cabela’s many years ago. It was suppose to be about predator hunting but all he talked about was his pre-orbital deer scent. I’d imagine making scents would be very difficult to be successful but it seems he does very well.

I was at an event in July where he was putting on a seminar and stepped in to listen for a second. Don't know anything about his products but there were about 50 Amish men in line to buy it. They sure must think it works.

How often do you have to refill the drippers? Always wanted to try them..

I can't speak for what others do to keep urine fresh, but I can tell you for certain that fresh bladder collected urine smells entirely differently from day 1 to day 2 if it's not preserved. When I was trapping I'd collect red fox urine with a needle straight out of the bladder, and I did it once with a doe my buddy killed that was being tended by a buck.
I've heard some of the best lure makers (Asa Lennon, Bob Jameson, Charles Dobbins, Leggets, etc) say that good clean urine will remain fresh for years if collected and stored clean without any preservatives. As much as I respect their craft, I just can't agree with that. I think day one fresh smells entirely different from aged urine.

I've used buck bomb with real estrus and synthetic. The synthetic made every doe that got near it blow out of the area in both private and on game lands. I tried conquest estrus last year but didn't see any buck come to it. I put it on a tree near a camera multiple times and never got a pic of any buck sniffing it. I'll probably get their herd stick again though.

Early August I put out Pre Orbital Gland Lure on two mock scrapes. Scrape 1 I started 3 years ago from scratch. Scrape 2 I started that day on the edge of heavy cover and not on a trail but with a good view from my stand location.

The results: At scrape 1 the established scrape collected over 1,200 photos mostly doe and fawns which is the target as I believe the bucks with be attracted later to the rubbing scent left behind by the female deer. There were 4 bucks on camera one a 9 point who visited 4 different times. Later each time as the last three were after daylight.

Scrape 2 the new location collected 999 photos with doe, fawns and the 9 point from scrape 1which tells me a little more about his core area. He also visited this site three times. Two during daylight and spent several minutes each trip.
That was much more than I had hoped for on a cold set.

As stated before I hung my vines low so the small stature deer can leave their scent and I put some scent up higher as I like to view pictures of the deer standing on their hinds legs to rub and sniff.

I am running way behind my normal schedule as I usually have about 7 pre orbital gland locations. With all the rain I hate to waste the scent getting wash off before the deer get accustom to visiting.

The scent I am using is from last year......

I put out a small locust "treecoy" the other day where the farmer cut down a walnut at a farm road intersection. Cut the tree off and just buried the trunk enough so it stood up, broke some limbs, and scratched out the dirt under the broken branches. I used no scent at all other than my own stinking human hands.
Within minutes of me leaving I had multiple does sniffing and rubbing on the branches and my card maxed out at 999 pics of deer, all does, nearly refusing to leave that tree alone.
