Damaged Avery Honkers!

thought i'd add a dozen of the new style FFD's as they looked nice and my newest GHG FFD's are 3 yrs old. The box arrived today undamaged and each deke was wrapped in a plastic bag and bubble wrap. All but 1 deke has a bare spot or two and some have "brushed" areas. I'm not that picky but annoyed. I heard from others that their quality has gotten worse. I guess if I was paying $80 a doz it'd be ok...
Anyone else with this experience?

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

Did you buy them from Rogers? I love Rogers, but I have that experience buying decoys from them when on sale. I don't complain because I usually only buy on a really great deal.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

Quality issues are inevitable, regardless of brand. Heck, bought dave smiths and still had issues. Every brand has it's issues in one form or the other it seems. That [censored] though, they'd be going back. I like the realism of dave smiths, the durability of dakotas and the staking/transportability of the avian X's.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

agree on potential quality issues with any of them but I have 2 friends that also had FFD issues. 1 came from Rogers. This is the 3rd and makes me think more then coincidence. Wanted to see if anyone here had issues.
I do have 1/2 doz FFD Avians that I really like. Thanks

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

I KNOW Dunns gets seconds of every brand of decoy. I have shopped with Rogers since they had their little shop back in the 90's and know Fred personally and I have never heard of them getting seconds. Ever. Best CS in the biz and some of the best deals you'll find. That said, it isn't like ANY retailer is going to open every box they ship out and check for issues prior to shipping them, so the QC issues go to Avery/GHG imho. Will most retailers take care of you with that kimd of problem? Some do, but they shouldn't need to. THAT should fall to tye manufacturer. Period. Its their product. They made it. We all also know what it's like getting customer service issues dealt with at Avery too. Like pulling you own teeth. Thats a fact. come to think of it, I don't think I have ever purchased Avery/ghg decoys where I didn't have some sort of qc issue. Maybe THAT'S why Stephen is so "fun" to deal with? He definitely works for his money...

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

I wasn't suggesting anything bad about Rogers, but I have bought avery, avian, and tanglefree flocked decoys from them on multiple occasions when buying from their sales flier, all prices were significantly reduced, and all had some minor qc/flocking issues. As I said, I never complain because I'm often buying them at half the retail price, and anticipate there be some reason for that. Could just be a coincidence, but I thought sharing my experiences might offer the OP some food for thought.

absolutely, all good, no offense taken. Wanted to clarify it was multiple decoy companies that I had that experience with, and also wanted to clarify that I love Rogers and will buy from them til it's no longer an option.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

They are cool decoys and on sale for $100 per 6 for FFD now. I'm sure Rogers will make it right. Usually the dealer replaces the decoys and works the issue with Avery to determine if its an isolated issue. Should be an easy resolution since you just bought them.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

I've bought GHG, big foots, and dakotas and the best ones of the box have been the bigfoot originals, followed closely by the dakotas. I have bought GHG's from a few different retailers and there is always some sort of flaw. However, it has never been so bad I have had to call CS or the retailer. I was taking a look at DOA's no too long ago, and they look really nice out of the box.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

I have some prot-types that have held up good. I specifically didnt bag them and used a seed bag to transport like I do with my snows. The plastic is soft like a bigfoot. I havent used any production decoys but if they're like the proto-types, you'll like them.

Since when? Seriously. I have owned and sold a lot of avery/ghg decoys amd many other brands as well and every issue I have had with Avery deeks has had to go through Stephen Lynch and god forbid you didnt have your receipt. I have never heard of a retailer, unless locally sold, replacing damaged or poorly worked decoys.

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

My issue is the nickel and diming. I had 7 out of 12 mallard progrades that either had split or un welded seams. I took pics of them, with my receipt in the pic. Stephen wanted close ups of every decoy, which was a minor inconvenience, but then he wanted to send me replacements and then have me ship the defective one back on my dollar. Another time I had the head rest bar on my finisher bend when a kid I took hunting stepped down on it. I was willing to PAY for a replacement but was told it wasn't a replacement part. I happened to have purchased it from Rogers and they didn't ask a single question, but pulled one from one of their blinds in stock and mailed it to me free of charge. Not bashing the company or products as a whole, but the CS was really bad whenever I had an issue that was OBVIOUSLY a manufacturing defect. It was like they were out out that they had to fix their problem that was their problem to begin with. Those are just two examples of many over the last 10 odd years. Customer service is what makes or breaks a company. Period. Its what keeps people returning even after they may have had an issue...

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

There is no Stephen Lynch but I know who you mean. He doesn't work there anymore. Cabelas and a lot of big stores handle all of their own returns. Haven't you ever been in the bargain cave. All kinds of diff returns in there from many diff manufacturers.

A lot of what you're talking about is when people have used the decoys and it's past the store return policy. There is no store out there that won't let you return unused items after you receive them which is the case being talked about here.

What you're talking about is people that used

Re: Done with Avery Honkers!

It's all junk, made in China for as cheap as possible. Blind bags with stitching falling out, decoys with missing flocking, padding in the shoulder straps of 6 slot bags falls out after 1st use of bag. Prograde mallard decoys that sink like battleships bc the seams leak. Sold mostly everything I had from avery and wouldn't buy from them again.
