Some background: USP took PGC to court trying to halt doe season in 2007. IIRC, Commonwealth Court initially granted USP a preliminary injunction, but the case was finally dismissed in Feb. of 2008. The court's decision was announced in the morning, before that day's opening at the Outdoor Show (Now the NRA's GAOS). Heard it on the news and helped spread the word at the show.

During that show, USP had signs up soliciting donations for their court case. When they were informed their case had been dismissed, they kept the signs up and donation jars out.
I obtained depositions from several of USP's leaders relative to the court case. Some of them gave conflicting answers in those depositions, when asked about their membership numbers, for example
Few, if any of their responses under oath, offered any clear evidence as to why they'd filed the law suit. Their reasons mostly had to do with their belief, that PGC was not managing deer numbers to suit USP.
For the past several shows, they've had signs up and jars out, soliciting funds for Bastian's CWD project and touting Bastian's efforts, while denigrating other CWD research projects. Bottom line, there are multiple CWD research efforts going on and none have been able to confirm Bastian's claims.
