Boytels are a Mix of a Boykin and Wachtel Hund.

Combining the Best traits of Two Great hunting breeds has created Very Good Turkey Dogs!

The Boykins are Good Bird Dogs and the Wachtel Hund brings a Bit of a Hounds nose, a Bit more size, a farther ranging dog, ability to make Voice on the breaks and a GOOD Mix with the Boykin Breed.

I will include a Link to some history on the Breed and will continue to answer any questions about this Boytel Breed I have been introduced to!

From what i've seen the Boytels are a bit better for turkey dogging then a pure bred boykin. Bigger bone and overall size, they bark better due to inheriting the wachtelhund's natural ability to give "tongue" and have a better nose. The guy who Gblsrst got his puppy from hunts fall turkeys from Oct-Jan in several states and has over a hundred kills with his dogs. They were bred by serious fall turkey hunters looking for the ultimate turkey dog.

I been hunting with Ron and Gretchen for 8 years and that dog can hunt. His new dog Jinger Lou(boytel) also is a great turkey dog. Here and my Brynes Turkey Dog had an awesome first year in the turkey woods
Here is a bird that Jinger started the break and Gunner cleaned it up at the end sending birds every where,Ron and I were on cloud nine high fiving it because we could not believe that two dogs less then 5 months old could do that well

That is a good explanation of the benefits of each breed. The Boykin is a close shotgun range hunter and likes to stay in sight of his partner wheras the wachtelhund is a natural long range hunter covering many acres of land out of sight of his partner. But the wachtelhund will swing back and check in on occasion to see what the handler is doing. Both dogs in my experience will bark and be noisy when they bust a flock. The wachtelhund has a bit better nose than my Boykins.
Bill Wagner ane his boys are using a Boytel named Turk from a litter I had 1 1/2 years ago. I trained Turk in last year for Bill. Turk has been doing a great job finding and busting up the flocks this Fall. The Wagner's already have 3 turkeys this Fall.
