So, after reading this article, I was considering what calibers I would need to hunt all of the species I plan to hunt. While that might vary per each person, I'm now ordering a .17 Fireball for Fox. I have a .223 for yotes, 7mm-08 for whitetail, and .270wsm for larger game. Might need one bigger for bear?

What are the rifles you think fit into the categories for the different sized game you will hunt, what are your preferences?

Sure a 30-06 or like gun, with good shot placement, can kill most anything, but it is not ideal for all species so let's hear your breakdown.

I think the .30-06 is ideal for all species. I used it for groundhogs, deer, turkey, bear, and Moose just within the last two years.

I'd say that you're fairly well equipt for just about anything you care to hunt up to elephants with the 7mm-08 and that 270 thing.

I use a 257 Roberts for a lot of things. It has killed whitetail, mule deer, antelope and groundhogs. Might be a little heavy for groundhogs, but we reload so it is relatively inexpensive to shoot. I also like a 22 Mag or 17MHR for varmints and small game.

Rimfire: .22 Mag or .17 HMR. Little critters, chucks, fox, the odd coyote at reasonable ranges.

Small centerfire: .223. Bullets ranging from rock cucks and prairie dogs, chucks coyotes and up to light (very light) deer loads.

Medium centerfire: 22-250 or .243. Everything up to deer at reasonable ranges with the right bullet.

Large centerfire: 7mm-08 or .300 WSM. Everything that walks around North America but the great bears.

Very large centerfire: .338 or .300 H&H lots of loads for medium to medium-heavy game to the really nasty stuff.

Do I own all these? No.
My personal favorites would be the .22 mag, .223, 7mm-08 and the .300 WSM in my Pro Hunter rifle, The 7mm-08, .444 Marlin and the .243 in my encore pistol. I'm pretty sure I have just about everything covered in one gun.
