Decided to go for an afternoon sit yesterday. Sat from 12 until 2 but was to cold to go any longer so I decided to go for a walk to warm up. While walking stepped on ice not once but twice and fell. First time in four years flintlock hunting that my gun had touched the ground. Made me sick to see the big scratch on the stocked from the stones on the ground. Figured the sites would be off but unloading at the end of the day, missed a water bottle by only an inch at 30 yards. As if that wasn't bad enough, didn't even see a tail. Guess that's why they call it hunting, and I will find myself back out there again this afternoon.

Don't sweat it man. These things happen, and there's nothing you could've done that would have changed that. It blows to get a scratch or ding on your gun, but those marks will remind you of hunts past, and only add character to your firearm.

I slipped on a wet moss covered log one time and fell backwards right on top of my 30/30 which was slung over my shoulder. Luckily I landed in soft earth so didn't get hurt. The gun was dirty but fortunately no damage, other than a few small dents in the stock. Each time I hold that gun and see those marks, I think of that hunt. I'd rather have that memory than not one at all.....It all works out in the end.
