as you may recall i posted about a powder horn my uncle had made.

well i tried to do one too. oak, walnut,spolded maple,hickery.

this is the first. so don't be to harsh. i am going to make more.it will get better with practice.

"Spolded" is sometimes used in place of "spalted" although it's not an officially accepted term, slang?

i just wasn't sure what it was called. i just knew it was something on that line. i think it is a very nice wood.

Just busting on you, looks good. I've been so busy building guns I haven't had time to do any horns or flasks or measures or...

i don't have any bigger pics.
well here's how i did it. started with 3/4 inch oak slab. used scroll saw cut out shape then cut out the inside leaveing 3/8 inch all around to get my hollow piece.used two 1/4 inch walnut slabs for the sides.then recut on scroll saw close as possible. for the cap i used 1 inch round hickory dowle rod. then weeks of hand sanding to shape all together.

wanted to use brass fixings but made a wooden stopper instead
