Time to put a winch on the Polaris Ranger.
I see winches rated from 2000 up to 5000 lb.
If the ranger only weighs, 1500 lbs at most ,
why do i need more than 2000 lbs .
If i try to pull something that weights more than the polaris,
won't the polaris be moving instead of the object i am pulling?

What features should i get for the winch. do i need a wired remote, wireless remote, or a control form inside the UTV.

I plan to use it for pulling some logs, raising deer, fence work, getting unstuck from mud, getting up steep hill in snow/ice...

Thanks for any info!

A couple things. If you are stuck or hung up the added suction of mud or friction of the hang up will be the same as adding weight. Also make sure the rating is for single line pull. Some winches are rated for dual line which means out, through a pulley and back. Those are usually half as much rating on a single line.

If the object you're pulling is downhill from you, it can weigh even less than your rig and still cause problems. But keep in mind you can always tie off to a secure anchor point and winch things that weigh more than the ATV. Might even pull the winch off !

I've only had experience with winches on trucks, so I will defer to the experts on specifics as they relate to ATV's.

My Warn winch is rated at 2000 lbs, my machine doesn't weigh that much but I may be pulling up hill where I hunt or I may be bogged down in mud, I would rather be over powered than under powered. The difference in price isn't worth worrying about.

Buy a warn. I used a warn 3k, I think.
Then I bought a viper 4k. What a disappointment that was.
Went back to my warn. Nothing stronger.
Learn to tie off, and use a snatch block.
You'll be amazed what you can pull.

Be careful with the ranger though. There frames are weak. I had a rhino before, wish I'd kept it.
