Does anyone eat wild onions?

They grow like weeds all over the place around here. In the woods, in lawns etc.
I cut off the tops of some the other day and have been using them like onions recently and they have a pretty good oniony taste. In chicken soup they were especially good, and I also put them in omelets.
Just tasting them raw, it seemed like the thin, upper green shoots have a strong onion flavor. But further down the stalk, the taste was not as good; more harsh.
I wonder why people go so crazy about ramps (leeks), while these seem to be mostly ignored.
