After reading RB's speech and thinking about the 10 year
anniversary of this site I started thinking about all the
things that have happened to me because of this site. I
have met some great guys from here. When I first got the
interest to fly fish I came on and asked "what will I need
to get started?" and Titanium pmed me and told me he would
take me out and show me how to fly fish and all about the
bugs and hatches and what I would need to get to geared up
for it. He recommended some great books and websites to help
me learn as well. To this day we still go fishing, shooting,
and hunting together and keep in touch every week. Thank
him for all he has done to help me along with fly fishing!
I joined PF cause I saw the local chapter on here and went
to a meeting not knowing what to expect but everyone there
made me feel welcome and I have made a few good friends from
there such as Jackson, Comm.Jay Delany, and George Nichols.
The local RGS chapter was out of commission so a few of us
on here got together through this site and started a new
NEPA chapter of the RGS. Nanookodanorth, Jackson, George
Nichols and grouse&britt and I together have got this new
chapter off the ground and hope to have some more of you
guys as members of this chapter. I also joined the PPHA and
met some really good guys from that club. At this years
ppha expo the whole place was estatic that Duffman won the
state calling competition and best of luck to him in Ohio
in the world championship! I have bought calls from some
of the call makers such as Bootmud's KCC calls and critter
buster's calls and they make some excellent calls that I
have called in coyotes with. That organization has done lots
for predator hunting and all the officers and members that
have been there deserve alot of credit for what they have
done! That's all for now, I may think of some more later!
Would like to hear others feedback on this topic to show
what this site has done for you...

(1) HPA taught me some net board courtesy!

(2) HPA gave me an opportunity several years ago to help moderate multiple Forums within the Muzzleloading, Hunting & Fishing topics where I had a chance to directly contribute towards HPA's growth/day to day operations;( this modin opportunity was afforded before Wayne & Rooster's ownership so dont blame them!!
)

(3) Most importantly...HPA has enabled me to share with & learn from this fine Membership base. Plus, has provided many opportunities to make some fine fishin/huntin buddies here where many trips through the years have been successfully originated from here!!

I could go on but the above really hits the important.

Adam, you have a lot of nerve calling Dave a bum. As I recall, you left that perch trip with a lot of high class beer!

I have also made some new friends that I haven't met yet
but hopefully someday the chance will come up. When I came
here I was still pretty young and wasn't so sure about the
AR/HR plan but soon learned to understand all the benefits
of it. Yes we may see less deer and can't always shoot the
first buck we see but the herd health and forests are now
better off for it. It's nice watching a spike or forkhorn
walk on by knowing that maybe next year he'll be a shooter.
I admit if it was still 3" spikes and bigger I would still
shoot small bucks because I am not a trophy hunter. It took
a little getting used to but now I am happy to let the
small ones walk and wait for a nicer buck to come by. I
have given and received advice from some knowledgable
people and will continue to do so into the future. It's
been a good 5 years for me here and it's been a good time
and like some of you I have become addicted to this site
but I don't think that's a bad thing!

Mostly it's shown me that there are a lot more people out there that share a deeper connection to the outdoors than I thought there might be. Lots of times through my early hunting (and fishing) career it seemed I was in the minority with my almost spiritual feeling towards both my quarry and the places they lived. Not sure if that's quite the way to put it. lol

I've also learned a lot of techniques from everything from trailcams to fly fishing. Hopefully I can offer that back in some small way to someone else on here sometime.

One specific thing this site has done for me is to get me back into one of my true outdoor passions, trout fishing. I was pretty much a trout fishing junkie through my teens and early twenties, but work and other things in life got me away from it for a long time and I never got back into it. I'd seen the trout fishing forum on here but never really looked at it much till last winter. Seeing the posts and pictures kind of woke me up to the fact that, yeah, I used to love this. Now I practically live down there.

Let's see... what has HPA done for me?

Given me something to do while the wife and kids are watching "reality tv" every night.

Given me the opportunity to meet some great people on the first annual perch/chumming trip.

Given me the opportunity to share the Steelers and Penguins championships with a bunch of new fans.

Given me the opportunity to read about everyones experiences, gripes and joys of their fishing and hunting seasons.

But, mostly, it has given me the opportunity to see the best in people. As RB so eloquently stated in his "State of HPA" speach, seeing the people on this site come together time and time again to help someone in need. The amazing thing to me is how the people on this site have helped people that they only know by a screen name. Wouldn't recognize the person if they were standing in line together, but still found it in their heart to help.

Here's to another 10 great years!

I gotta be honest Corey, and not to sound corny, but this place was the glue that held me together a little over a year ago when my Dad passed away. I've owed alot to this place since then.

Of course the info I've received from people and the people I've met and hung out with, camped with, gone to Phillies games with, shared a campfire with, shot archery with, golfed with and hunted with have all contributed to my experience here.

Sure, sometimes you have to wade through the junk to get to the center where the good stuff is, but once you find it it's worth the trip it took to get there.

Since I've joined HPA about 4 years ago, I've met a lot of great people. Both online and also in person. I've made life long friendships and have seen the true character from a lot of people and most of them are great.

HPA has also kept me out of a lot of trouble. From seeing how much fun some of these guys talked about predator hunting made me want to spend fall/winter evenings in the woods. Being that I am a senior in high school, I can honestly say if it weren't for predator hunting, I'd probably be a whole different person. A person that would be no good to society. And the predator hunting leads back to HPA.
