Well, we are getting close to that time of the year to start picking hen-of the woods mushrooms. Here in the Cambria-Somerset County area everybody calls them sheephead. When I posted a pic of one a couple of years ago on another site I said sheephead and they said WHAT DID YOU CALL IT? I guess not everybody calls it sheephead. What do you call it?

it sure looks like a sheephead
I heard people in eastern PA call it rams head. I've also heard somebody call it a cauliflower mushroom.

I call them Hen's.

There is a mushroom called a cauliflower mushroom which is out right now. I have picked a few young ones. They are ok to eat but not nearly as good as Hen's.

Can you give me any tips on where to look for some of these at?
Look around the oak trees and old stumps, they seem to like growing around these. The weather is cooling off and will be a little rainy this week coming, it will be a great time to look for them.
