CG is always polishing brass. We used tooth paste for our brass belt buckles. Sure puts a shine on it.

Brasso works better and you don't have to work as hard. Ketchup will shine brass and copper as well. You want to make copper shine, rub it with ketchup.

Used Brasso in the service have a can at home here not the liquid polish but that woven rag looking thing works great.

I used the liquid, I don't know if they had the impregnated cloth when I was in the navy, I could use my belt buckle for a mirror.

I liked Brasso but some guys used Duraglit; everyone used lighter fluid to get rid of the polish compound and add a surface to ward off finger prints and tarnish.

There were a lot of methods for spit shining shoes and boots; Kiwi + spit / ice water all applied with a thoroughly laundered cloth diaper. And then there was the application of them deodorant pads to smooth out caked on Kiwi just before an inspection. Remember that?
