Agree. Get the straight line 6. I had a '92 Cherokee that reached 165,000 miles before I traded it in. My neighbor still has his '96 Cherokee with 225,000 miles. His daughter is going to start driving next year and he is giving her that vehicle.

Cherokees/Grand I dont like any if the newer ones. Pre 2002 would be my choice .easy to work on parts are cheap and lots in junk yard.
Cons- gas guzzler, prone to odd electrical issues.

A 98 grand with a 6.0 would be my choice. I have a 94 now and a 96 in the past.

I used to have a 93 Grand Cherokee got 199,000 out of it would go anywhere in the snow and I mean deep snow, I miss it. Was the best vehicle I ever had.

I have a 97 Cherokee, has 232K on it, straight six. They made millions of them and even rebuilt motors are only about 1700.00. I love mine. Bulletproof tranny. I got a used one which was a police package, skid plate on front and gas tank, internal high idle switch. I've replaced only the original radiator, water pump (only because the gasket went) and alternator. The only problem I've had is finding a new drivers seat, they are RARE around these parts. One thing you need to know is if you get one, keep up your cooling system. Supposedly (Don't know how true this is) way back when before the straight six, they had a 4 banger for power. When they went to the straight six, they couldn't cram a thicker radiator into the frame, so they stayed with the original one. Don't let that thing overheat, and you'll be fine...
