is the undercoating in the spray cans the easiest way to go about doing an undercoating or is there a better option?

You have to be carefull when using auto parts store under coating. It can trap moisture under the coating causing it to rust from the inside. There are a lot of different ways to do it correctly, but the simplest is to use an undercoating that has a Rust Encapsulator in it. Eastwood has some great products for the DIY guys!

Spray on isn't all that abrasion resistant. We did the underside of my 93 Jimmy and the grass in the center of the dirt roads rubbed a lot off.
