I used to have two separate sets of tools, until I found out they quickly got mixed up and stunk up in the back of the truck.
I used to be a fanatic about keeping clean because that's the way I was taught.
At some point, trapping with different partners here and there, I realized that trying to keep everything clean and scent free wasn't catching anymore than when I trapped "dirty". And keeping clean was full of frustration at times.
Now it's one set of tools and quite often it's dirty traps too, and I can't say I've seen a noticeable difference in my trapping success.
An extra hammer is all I need for remakes if using waxed dirt. If using sets dirt and need to use sifter, get dirt from away from catch circle and don't set it down there is how I play it. Honestly late season I don't even care about mixing up the odors. I often say as I am making set," here I am, you know me, how good are ya?"
