I don't know why never had. The casings are packed tight never lost any meat. After smoking awhile the ends sort shrink and seal at the ends.

Good question maybe next time I'll try tying them.

I do not tie the ends on my snack sticks, but I do twist them up at about 1 foot long...make links out of them like sausage links....

It to me looks much better when you stuff just enough and then twist them into links instead of leaving them 1 long piece....

If you tie the ends and then try to make links, you need to not stuff to much in them, so you have a little extra of casing when you go to twisting and do not bust the casings!
If you do not tie the ends shut, you then have an opening that allows the excess to go someplace without busting the casings!
