Heading up to camp for Labor Day and I am looking to do some fishing for smallies in the Tionesta. I have never really spent much time fishing there but want to give it a try. Our camp is North of Marienville, what area close to here should i try? In the past we have fished the part by Blue Jay Rd/666.

I've caught them right above the Lynch Bridge, up around the county line and right below the Henry's Mills Bridge in the past. Mostly used tube baits and crayfish colored lures. I've caught them up into the South Branch as well. Good luck.

I never purposely fished it for smallmouths, but a few years back I was fishing for trout in mid May and tied into about a 16" smallie on a fly rod... I thought I had a lunker trout at first but was just as happy catching him.... I was under the concrete bridge a couple miles upstream from BlueJay.... maybe he's still around! Rain may help, but the fish gotta be concentrated on the deepest holes they can find with the low water. Good luck!
