The throw means throw it in the garbage and plant something better. Those throw n grow mixes are mostly cheap ryegrass. They will grow but have limited use and value to deer.

Yeah, plus i think most of that throw and grow seed is aimed at last minute/not planned fall plantings.
You don't want to plant brassica and rye in spring.
Are you trying to establish a perennial plot or a fall hunting plot.

If you aren't able to till, then frost-seeding clover is an easy way to get a plot going. It does require frequent mowings to maintain the weeds.

I concur that the Throw and Grow stuff is mostly rye grass - it grows great and makes for a nice green plot, but it sees very little use from the deer.

Spring planting is tough for a lot of food plotters...a tough battle against weeds. Are you able to do a fall planting? Beginning of August for some stuff...and around Labor Day for others.

I can do a spring or fall. It really doesn't matter. I have a couple spots up at my dads cabin to plant food plots that are very open. I can do both I think. Like I said I'm in 3b Wyoming co I'm just looking for something that will grow an be useful to the deer. I probably have an acre to an acre an a half to work with. Tilling shouldn't be a problem.

Good advice as usual already given my 2 cents would be mix it up.
Plant an area in spring clover maybe mix in some chicory like others said you need to maintain this area chopping the weeds down.
If you take care of it you will have good food source for a few years.I personaly plant trails and shooting lanes with clover where possible.
Then plant brassicas in another spot for fall planting I have had great results with WINTERGREENS mix and deer radish.
It gets use in late season the deer start hitting it here in end of October/November but really hit it hard December /January.
You will have to replant area the following year.
Warning it takes time and can become addictive!
