3/4 circle, straight down cuts, no angles and flip. Makes for a nicer presentation when replacing as the sides match up and that 1/4 uncut holds plug in if they now their grass before the rest takes root

I prefer a hinged plug. It seems a hinged plug lessens the chance of any browning of the grass during dry weather.

I dig the whole way around the plug, angled towards the center.......drop it back in, and step on it firmly.....it works every time you do it......

I dig a lot of bigger sized plugs every day finding buried survey monuments etc for work.....

I know a guy who uses a golf course cup hole digger. Its a bit of an investment, but you can put the plugs back perfectly, even in a different hole.
