They move around some. Last Sat. a.m. my little girl found nine in about an hour or so in an old overgrown orchard near a small stream (ton of apples this year). We went back in today to get her brother some work and only had one find on the same ground.
Had 6 points on them this morning, shot none, lots of fun however, went back to shoot one this after noon for our young Setter, and only one point, the birds had moved out of the area. At 1st I thought it was just the young dog, released the girls, Penny and Daisy to cover the same area, the birds moved over the mountain during the early afternoon. The girls did set me up with a real nice Grouse point on the way out along the stream, the little SXS 20 Gauge H&R Hammer Gun with SpredR shells works quite well, and Daisy retrieved the bird to hand.
I was out of the woods by 1:30, wind picked up, looks like rain again latter this evening. I hope Monday is cool and sunny, today was actually to warm and very over cast, not really a perfect opening day at all.
Here in the Northeast, I had a great morning, as soon as I got out my truck and closed the door I flush a grouse, saw where it went, started my britt "SAM" and in 2 min. he is on point over the bird, of course we know how long our grouse hold, so off it goes giving me the best shot that anyone could ever have, and yes I blow it, still a nice way to start. Sam gave me two more points this morning over woodcock, one did not offer a shot, and the other, you guessed it, I missed it. Sorry Sam, man it was a great day anyway. 35 degrees, sunny, with no breeze when I started, then a little wind 2 hrs. later.
Hope everyone had a good day. I better get to the skeet range.
