I was inspired by Pointer's post and pictures so I decided to take the good camera and dogs for a run today. It didn't take them long to find a covey of the liberated quail. Here are some of the pictures I took:

a close up of the birds they found

There are about a dozen birds in this group.

We moved on without finding anything else and on the way back the dogs found the same covey in a different location. Blitz had a long string of drool with all the birds running through the briars.

A picture of the area the birds were found:

These birds have been out for a long time and are doing well. I think the birds will hang around for another 6-8 weeks before they try to pair up. That's when I'll give the dogs a break.

Dogs look good!

Just curious what time of day you were working them? I have only found them circled up like that late in the day.

Very nice pictures and also a very nice size covey. I am not finding coveys of that size right now. I think all the snow we have had has them busted up and they have been exposed to the predators more due to the visibility the snow provides. I hope we soon see bare ground in my area.
