It's been discussed many times over on this site, but I haven't seen it on it's own thread here before.

What do you think the overall effects would be?

For me personally, it would probably mean that I'd never shoot another doe in PA again. 2 deer a year is more than enough meat for my family in a season.

I think overall, a lot of guys would take this perspective and perhaps a lot more doe would survive?

And that, in a nutshell, is why it probably won't happen anytime soon.

I think the majority of guys who have the chance to shoot 2 bucks a year do already. Sad but true. Im like you 2 deer a year is plenty and i would never shoot a doe if I could get 2 buck tags. Just think of how many guys get their old lady to buy a license to get a second buck tag.

Really forest ? Only the honest guys get a crack at one buck a year ? wow.

2nd buck tag for PA may happen when hunter # drop to about 300,000.

If or when Deer #'s can support it I am all for it. For how much I give the PGC for a nonres tag I should get 2.

If its too expensive, you don't need to buy it.

The biggest reason it won't happen is forest health, every one knows bucks hate oak, they don't eat acorns or browse on it, only does do.

So there is no need besides horn porn to kill one, and besides that they taste real bad too.

If it weren't for the auto insurance companies I think bucks would be protected.

Does need killed, all does! They destroy the environment, hate trees, they emit green house gasses and we all know its way harder to kill a doe than some Ole dumb buck.

Does are the trophies and they taste better too, thats why you guys need to kill more does and leave the buck hunting to those of us that just aren't up to the doe hunting standards of today.

I don't see it happening for two reasons.

#1. PA hunters are very tied to tradition, sometimes to their own detriment.

#2. I believe that it might work on private land but not state land where access is not limited.

I think more likely will be a system where each hunter is handed a tag for a buck and an antlerless deer (specify the WMU at the POS station). Then in WMU's where more deer need to be taken additional antlerless tags will be issued kind of like New York and New Jersey already have.

Never said it was too expensive. I would prob buy one if it cost $500 but thats beside the point. I would like to have chance to take 2 buck if herd can sustain it.

I have a chance to kill 10 or more every year and never take more than 1. Pretty general and negative toward your fellow hunters statement there.

As for 2 buck a year, I never see it happening, we have too many hunters for that. Also they wont like the idea of people not shooting doe.

I don't think it will happen anytime soon if ever. Maybe when hunter numbers drop drastically it could be a possibilty but i think the PAGC would just give us more doe tags rather than another buck tag. Im not against it or routing for it but i would certainly take advantage of it. If they would do it i think it should be an extra tag like the turkey tag that costs a good bit more. I will be surprised if this happens in my lifetime and i am 28.

I don't think will ever see a 2 buck season. I do think someday we'll see a 2 tag season 1 buck and 1 doe. Doe tags will still be wmu specific, but you'll recieve a doe tag when you buy your license, especially if hunter numbers continue to decline.

I don't think it should be an 'across the board' 2 bucks a year right that comes with every license, but I think they should perhaps allow a 'bonus buck tag' that you have to pay extra for - like upwards of $100.00 or something.

I know I'd buy one, but a lot of guys probably would not. I think it would be another good source of the income for the PAGC.

Being from PA and going to school in NY I have the opportunity to buy a residents license there. Now, before I give my statement I am in no way comparing NY to PA, I just find NYs way of handing out tags to be appealing. In NY we have the "opportunity" to shoot 2 buck, 1 rifle buck tag and 1 either sex muzzle loader/bow tag. With this in mind most my friends opt to shoot doe with the either sex tag with a few here and their take 2 buck. Never seemed to hurt their success as they always take deer every year. Not saying it will help PAs overall herd but if it could be incorporated it may rid of our whole doe tag deal.

I think Pa should be more like NY,they can get 1 buck with a archery license,1 with a big game license ,and 1 with a muzzy license.there doe tags are based on the # of bucks killed per forested sq mile per zone ex.zone x due to % of forest and agi.can support 4 buck killed per sq mile and only 3 get "reported" doe tags are cut.or raised if the # show.I live and hunt in Pa and hunt NY there is no shortage of buck or doe in NY

In Michigan, which is a state with similar number hunters and deer herd, hunters are allowed 2 bucks, last I knew.

It is said that success on the second buck is about 10%, thats it.

In as little as 10-15 years, PA will be able to offer a second buck tag, just as they do a second gobbler tag now.

And I will add, there are areas of PA that right now, that could sustain a second buck tag with little impact.
