Well Colton and I are tagged out. I was going to let this one pass, but Colton was hunting with me tonight and kept whispering for me to shoot him. He was 20 yards slightly quartering away. He is a 6 point (4 on one side 2 on the other). I shot him with the Parker Buckbuster 175, with victory arrows with lumenoks and American Broadhead Company Bolt Sonic Broadheads. He ran about 50 yards, stood there for a few seconds and fell over dead. Double lunged him. It was kinda funny and special because Colton started slapping me on the back and hooting and hollering like I did with him. It was a lot of fun. Colton is happy that we can concentrate on squirrel hunting now.

Nice Job C-spot! And way to go Colton!

I really enjoyed watching your deer and small game harvests this year. You have done an outstanding job mentoring him!

Ya know, there are times when I think its OK to harvest a younger deer. Being in your situation, I may have done the same. That was as important to Colton (seeing you get your buck) as his own harvest!

I loved hearing his reaction!

There is time for him to learn "Let them go so they can grow"

This year was his, and you put your focus where it belonged, on making him happy. Good for you!

Very cool. With that kind of peer pressure:) who wouldn't have given in. I love seeing the young guys getting involved and experiencing success!

When a legal deer comes in range you always have the battle between the voice on one side telling you to shoot and the voice on the other telling you to pass. This time the voice on the left had a little help.
Another funny part to the story is that when the buck came out I could hear Colton's breathing getting heavy. I asked him after the shot why he was breathing heavy since I was the one doing the shooting.
He said he was excited that I was going to get one.

That was probably the most fun I have ever had shooting a little buck except my first buck when I was 12.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Colton has lots of years ahead of him, and so do you.
Plenty of time in the future to pass and it isn't too often a father and son are together for FOUR deer in a year!

Actually that makes five for us. Hopefully his mother will add at least a couple more in rifle season. She is talking about trying the crossbow next season. I think she is wanting to get in on the fun also.

Sometimes it's not about the size of the buck, but the memory that will last a lifetime. You deserve more than just a congratulations.
