If you srtickly wanted an acre to "benefit deer" then clear cut an acre and let it normally revegetate. Clover is one of the least productive plants on a tonage bases to provide food.
frigid forage big n beasty.....ive been managing our 79 acres for 10 years now, using a developed plan, i use roughly 15 acres of that total for food plots placed strategically, with a couple small cuts of pulp type woods, regeneration is great, the deer use the food plots august-march, and leave the natural regeneration alone! need help putting it together pm me
Yep, I meant 9 of the 12 months of the year. The annuals typically are 2-3 months of benefit.
Absolutely agree that perrenials proveide many years of benefit.
I could make the argument that clover is used year round, at least that's what my trail camera tells me. The usage may not be as great in the late winter months but the deer still dig through the snow to get a bite to eat of what little is left.
Clover without a doubt is the best food plot if you could only plant one.
