We hunted there in the 70's and very early 80's Use to just camp along the road in one of the pulloffs. There was ALOTA deer and alota hunters back then. We are way to old now to hunt the mountians anymore. We heard in the 90's there were almost no deer at all up that way. Was that true? Did they ever make a comeback? I remember the days of Schoolhouse and Holmes Hollows hunts. Just wondering... thanks

I've been hunting that area for about 8 years now. It's a nice area, but you won't get overrun with deer and your success will be heavily dependent on mast production. Number of hunters seems do vary from year to year also. Sometimes, there are a few guys in the woods. Sometimes you wonder if you are there on the right days.

No doubt it's quite different now than in the 70's and 80's.

as you are aware then , back in the day 80% of the bucks that were shot were the spikes ,forkeys and scrub racks. The nicer bucks came later in the week and into the second week. Now with the point restriction I bet too there are a few good ones....thanks kyle
