I'm pretty happy with Dupree. Assuming growth and health from their other LBs I think that unit can be pretty solid. Pick up some secondary in the next round.

I have to admit I was a bit perturbed at the pick at first due to our need for quality CB's, but once the beer goggles came off and I had a chance to look into this kid, I'm pretty happy with the pick. Besides, his name is "Bud". That's pretty Picksburgh.

Especially a WR that--get this--drops 19.1 percent of his passes. Ben must be so excited. Golson appears to have some game though. He will have a hard time covering Megatron, but so does everyone else. He's good in zone, and likes to hit. He also has good ball skills. Go figure, we get a corner who can catch, but a receiver who can't. I think I may have gone running back instead of receiver, but I don't do the draft.

Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, were both suppose to be beasts when drafted by Pittsburgh, but neither has really shown that they are anything special (yet). We will see about Dupree.
Senquez Golson will be the shortest CB the Steelers have. Doesn't matter though, with the CB's they have now, Gay, Blake, Webb, and the great Cortez Allen, if Golson gets two interceptions, he'll be a superstar in Pittsburgh.
Sammie Coats is physically strong for a WR. That's pretty much all I know about him. Teach him to block, run short routes here and there, trying to fill that Hines Ward void.
Wheaton, and Heyward-Bey, should be gone soon anyway.

How bad is the secondary? So bad, Steeler fans say things like this:

"Adrian Jimenez · El Paso, Texas

Oh lord he's 5 ft 9 in! The league is full of CB that size. William gay if 5 ft 10 in and if the steelers had two of him there would be no secondary problem."

When Willie Gay looks like an All Pro in your secondary, you got issues.

Jesse James was a nice pick up for them........the guy is a seriously good TE for their system, he needs to improve his run blocking a bit, but he has good hands, and is outstanding in the red zone

Tall CB's are nice but if a short guy with wheels has the ups to get up there with a tall WR, and can be physical enough to do it that's fine.........

Deshea Townsend was only 5'10" and he was a pretty serviceable CB

Overall, I am pretty happy with their draft. Not sure I understand the WR pick, but what the heck. All of the other ones addressed their needs. All of the DB's are big INT guys from what I saw and the others are supposed to be good pass rushers to pressure the QB's. With as low as they drafted in each round, you have to be pleased with how theye did.
Past drafts choices don't influence the current ones. Give them a chance and see what they do. Then judge the choices.
You're not going to totally overhaul the whole defense in one year. The way the shcedule is looking, this year could be a big learning experience anyway.

I'm happy they hit areas of need with the exception of the WR pick. I don't think they've drafted particularly well since the Tomlin era began, but I'll reserve judgment on this crop of guys. At least there were no punters of minuscule RBs picked.
