At Danesdad's suggestion, time for a new Steelers thread for this season. Should be an interesting one....

I think Myles Jack like Cam Sutton was based on $$ and the availability of Linebackers and CB from the free agents and up coming draft which is kinda rich in CB's....Hope they are wise choices.....Only time will tell.....However, the restructuring of Minkah to save a possible 10,000 million should help make some wise choices for improved players????
10 billion?
Steelers just signed ILB Elandon Roberts . Can’t believe all the movement in the last couple days.

I'm liking it so far. At least they're not sitting on their hands.

Stillers currently projected $3.5 mill over the '23 cap. Who's getting cut/restructured? Cutting William Jackson & Myles Jack would free up $20+ mill cap space so they're likely gone. The list of Steelers UFA/RFA is weak. I'm not sure anyone on that list is worth resigning unless it's a bargain. Maybe Spillane for depth at ILB. Highsmith is one player on the roster that could be priority for long term deal.

I'm thinking at least 2 LB & 2 OL should be acquired in FA &/or high draft picks. They really need a stud ILB who can eat up 100+ tackles per season for the next 5 years. That's the most glaring weakness on their roster followed by OL, DL, DB. IMHO
This post from January has aged well even if I do say so myself ..I'm not sure either ILB they've acquired are studs but hopefully an upgrade from last season. Hopefully they can pick up at least 2 impact starters in the draft particularly on the OL & DB plus solid depth at edge rusher & DL.

Bush is signing with the Shehawks, so right now its Holcomb, Roberts, and the raw kid Robinson at ILB.

That's not thin, it's anorexic. 😬

Didn't see Marcus Allen sign anywhere. If they can't scrape the offal to find more depth, he could be back as depth/special teamer, so long as he agrees to stay out of other teams' huddles.......

They are kinda screwed at that spot. No one worth taking at 17, and not sure in today's NFL that short of Jack Lambert crossed with Urlacher do you take an ILB with a Top 25 pick.

If the top 3 or 4 OT gone and top 3 or 4 CB gone at 17, they should strongly consider a trade back. They don't have a lot of picks Day Three. If you can swap first rounders with someone and pick up say a 3rd and 5th rounder, gotta think about that.

But just in numbers, should be someone there in a position of need. Figure 4 QBs taken before 17. Leaves just 12 more picks before the Steelers pick. Likely one of the top three CB, OT, DL, or edge guys still there.

If ALL the top prospects at those positions are gone at 17, that means no one took a WR or TE. You snag the guy for Kenny. Please do not take the #5 CB or #5 OT at 17. And if someone falls in love with another QB, say Hooker, that could really push the board down the Steelers way.

We can at least have hope this time of the NFL year!

They signed a guard, Seumalo from the Eagles. He was starter there. The eagles are a good team to poach lineman from.

good they're putting $ into the OL. Steelers had the least % of cap invested in OL last season. Also Steelers poached their Asst. GM from the Eagles last season. So that's at least 3 additions from the Eagles in the past year. More smashmouth ball next season with the added beef up front.

I like the direction they're heading.

OK, they solidified the interior O-line. They need a tackle (or two) but the top three prospects in the draft will likely be gone by their pick. What should they do?

take the best player available on the board regardless of position at 17 & then the best player at position of most need (DB, OT, DL, LB) at 32. Continue to address roster depth weaknesses with the rest of the picks. A real stud will be available at 17 so don't reach for position depth weakness. Reaching for a player because of their position usually results in poor long term improvement for the team.

Corner , tackle and defensive lineman. I would be happiest with a defensive lineman in the first round .
They also need another WR in my opinion.

OT will almost certainly be taken at 17 or 32. They did not sign a tackle. At least they signed Petersen.

Again, 4 QBs for sure going before 17. So if you say OT, CB, DL, Edge/LB in no particular order for the Steelers, surely ONE of the top three at one of those spots is there. And if not, then no one has taken a WR yet. They would have to try real hard to mess this up.
Hopefully one of the top 3 OT projected to go in first round fall to 17. Parris Johnson would be my choice
With the movement they’ve had on O line in the FA market, I’m not expecting them to use a high draft choice there also. I am expecting Corner, D line, LB and WR as main areas of focus. If they draft an O Tackle it will be later. I don’t think they’re ready to flush Moore yet.
Looks like Edmunds is gone . We definitely need safety help . Would you guys be opposed to them taking Porter at #17 ?

That would be ideal, but I dont think he will fall that far. Chicago and Tennessee need help there and both pick before the Steelers.

I could live with it, if he was the best player available at that point.
