I hate the PIAA team tournament format. It is a contrived championship in order for the PIAA to get more money.

yes they make money but what a great memory for the kids involved!!!!
Well, as one that wrestled, I hated the WPIAL team tournament. In fact, my senior year, we voted to not wrestle in it and we were seeded #1. The school board told us if we wanted to wrestle in the individual tournament (which is what wrestling is) we had to go to the WPIAL's. The best way to get to Hershey is to earn the individual ride.
I also think the WPIAL team tournaments are enough it gives kids good competition. As far as team tournaments many schools are not the class they need to be in. We had just enough to make a full line up. But we had teams in our class that were 2 and 3 deep, and a very much larger enrollment. A local larger school, was up a class 1 year, if another team in the area was going to be stacked the next year, the other team got dropped back down and they still had a large enrollment.
I also wrestled and would have loved this chance to do this when I wrestled there wasn't any dual tourneys out there.if its all about the individual why keep a team score at al? why keep score at individual tourneys because it is also a team effort......don't get upset JMHO
My Alma Mater Chestnut Ridge will be there as well as our local Delaware Valley HS.

I can't agree more. Many who have never wrestled think of wrestling as an individual sport. Those who have wrestled know that without their teammates pushing them to get better, they would not be nearly as good as they may be. Many of the teammates that do the pushing never get mat time.

When I wrestled, we had a back-up heavyweight that could have won the district championship and possibly a regional championship but never got a chance to wrestle varsity because our starter was stellar. Our starter would not have been near as good without him. The dual tournaments is a good way to give these folks a chance to win as well despite not setting foot on the mat.

I don't know much about the wrestling team, but I graduated from Western Wayne. It is located in Varden, PA. I think I read that their heavyweight wrestler is undefeated even though he is in the low 200s.
Congrats to my alma mater, Central Dauphin, for winning their 6th straight AAA District 3 Championship. They should be competitive at states as usual.
I see Redbank won, looks by a decent margin too....a lot of bonus points for Redbank, not so much for Western Wayne.....

West Branch also won their match against South Fayette, it was a close match, but WB gave up the match at 220, a kid wrestled up 25 pounds because the starter at 220 was out with an injury. He is probably the best wrestler on the team.......hopefully he is wrestling tomorrow against Reynolds......
RBV lost 2 today they ended up giving up 2 forfeits and lost both matches by 4 points I believe.....their state ranked 182 pounder and their 195 were ruled out because of a skin infection tough break but that's how it goes sometimes

Yep, WB dropped both today too........their 220 pounder tried to wrestle, but he ended up losing by injury default 40 seconds in.........hey there is definitely no shame in being in the top 12 teams in the state...
