I tried it...what a mess. It's designed more for the industrial sect...think industrial washing machine size tumbler, same with ceramic. A cheap media to use is lizard bedding from petco, it's a finer grit, but won't clog up flash holes. I have 2 bowls, one with standard media for range brass that needs the crud knocked off, and the lizzard bedding for my stock that needs just a bit of polishing to bring it back. I usually add a drop or two of nu-finish car wax to it.

For nasty looking brass, soak it for one hour or so in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water...stirring ocasionally, then rinse several times, let it dry then tumble, it will come out like new.
