I an currently building a Somerset Co. Bedford rifle. My dad has an actual one that has been handed down through the family. The lock plate is stamped with the date 1796 and the initials SDR. Is anyone familiar with Pa. gunmakers or have an idea who might have made it?

Hillbilly2 I would like to know more about your Somerset Co gun, perhaps even see pics of the original if your open to that. I too was born and raised in Somerset Co. and now reside in the Buckeye (central).

Is your original a flint? Any idea on the cal.? I have seen very few Somerset/Bedford guns (pics) that were flints. If I live long enough I plan to build at least one Somerset gun, I have several blanks of native Somerset Co. curly maple from which I plan to build.
