There should be no wefa at all....Stop entitlements and watch the country grow. The minority drags down the majority. Stop entitlements and watch the country grow.

Start with the Education system. Privatize EVERYTHING, including the post office.

Call me a constitutionalist.

With my CDL I had to pass a drug test every other year and if in an accident would have been subject to mandatory drug testing. Why should we give money away without asking for similar testing? It is time we told some of the leaders we want our country back.

Actually in PA if you fail a drug test you are considered to be "sick". They say you have the disease of addiction. Thus you are eligible to receive welfare benefits(if you are not working).

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a [censored].

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

As sad as it sounds it's true.

I've had to take 3 drug tests in the past 6 months. 1 to start a job, 1 for a physical card to drive a commercial vehicle, and finally another last week to start a different job.

I had to make some deliveries last week to a low/no income housing unit. Big sign out front that said drug use will be reported to police. In one of the units there was pot on the end table with a pile of little kids running around. The father was completely stoned to a mental state of retardation, and the manager that was with me did nothing. I mentioned the pot to her, and didn't even care.

I never agreed with drug testing for employment. As long as the employee never showed up to work under the influence, I see no problem with it. What you do on your off, personal time is your own business. Believe me, drug tests prove nothing, there's 50 ways around them. From my buddy who carries synthetic urine with a handwarmer in his lunch cooler, to the other guy who has his 12 year old son urinate in a small bottle before his physical, there's body flushes to take, and shampoo for a hair folicle test.

In Philly they give welfare recipients free drugs at the methadone clinic.
Same here in Pgh... Its HILARIOUS the amount of people you see walking to and from or waiting at the bus stop to get to the clinic at 6:30 am. You can bet your behind they're not going to be late for that, probably even show up early to be at the front of the line.
They're not too lazy to get up at the crack of dawn to get their drugs, but MOST of them would never get up that early to actually go to a job and work.

Trust me that most employers don't give a darn what you do on your own time. However, their insurance carriers do. The discount they get by having a drug testing policy makes it so they almost have to do it.

I just have a problem taking them so others don't have to.

Friend of mine runs a small business, and they get something like 20% off their liability insurance.

The last place I worked at NEVER did any drug testing other then pre-employment until about a year before I got layed off. No. I didn't fail any. We asked why they were being done because things were so tight that they were cutting peoples pay and bennies. They told us the same thing. 20% from their liabilty insurance.

How about no welfare....call it Workfare, like some others said, clean the roads, dig holes, pick up garbage, etc...
I never got a free ride and neither should any able bodied adult. Make their cards only able to get bread, milk, cheese and basic meat...every time I see the welfare card come out the cart is full of fruit loops, chips, soda, candy and more crap....... I'd be embarrassed as a MAN to be collecting a check knowing full well I was able to work......work mans comp is another abused system..but lets save that for another day.

Welcome to America...No slackers allowed!!!!!!
I agree with this. If they are physically able to perform any type of manual labor by all means make them. How about litter crews? The other thing that really aggravates me about food stamps is allowing "junk" food purchases. I was recently behind a family at the check out in our local grocery store. These people filled their cart to the brim with chips, soda, and frozen pizzas. Of course they paid for it with food stamps. Why not make food stamps good for only necessities. Meat, cheese, milk, bread etc. I just don't get it.

We gotta stop giving hand outs to every other country also. No more aid to Haiti, no more food to Africa , north korea. Much of the food we gave to north Korea ended up in the militarys hands. We are throwing tons if money away with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan , soon in south Korea. This country is in bad shape, but yet we keep coming to the rescue.
