A big YES

From an emotional standpoint to answer YES would be the correct answer but in reality I would have to say NO.letinmfly said:They should IMO. If they are, the welfare benefits should be terminated with no chance of reinstatement of benefits.
Again IMO, anyone that receives welfare and is an able body to work should be on road crews cleaning the roads and highways. Let them cut grass where budgets aren't allowing the DPW crews to cut grass on these roads and highways.
It's an old concept....WORK=PAY.
I don't see how slavery was even brought into this discussion. The people receiving benefits would be working for there assistance check. Slavery is a form of forced labor in which people are considered to be, or treated as, the property of others. Slavery and working to get public assistance, no connection between the two.Birch812 said:First off slavery was abolished over 125 years ago, and having them perform roadwork, trash removal or urban beautification projects would be cutting jobs that traditionally are done by paid union employees. Further more you would be opening the state up to multi million dollar lawsuits when the truly lazy get hurt the first 15 minutes that you are trying to get your pound of flesh.
As for the drug testing how often are they tested, and who foots that bill? I don’t think you have anymore right to drug test people on welfare anymore then I do to sell them a hunting license or as part of a loan application.

You "had" a job and wanted to keep it? I may be assuming ( I know what happens when you assume ), but I think you ment to type "have" a job, or you are retired. If that is correct, I agree with you 100%rflktrman said:I had to take drug tests for my jobs, why should they not have to take them too to get a check?
Oh that's right, I had a job and wanted to keep it.
