Today I was hunting geese with my son and his friend. We brushed our lay out blinds with cut ornamental grass that the landowner had dumped there. I just had an umbilical hernia surgery last week so I put a lot of extra grass around my head area because I was just sitting with my head sticking out of the blind so I wouldn't have to have the pain of sitting up quickly. Anyway I shot several times with no problem but near the end of the day I shot and the grass caught fire right next to my head. That grass burned fast and luckily we got it extinguished quickly. I guess there was unburnt powder or hot gas escaping from the receiver was enough to ignite the grass. I was using a 12 ga semi auto shotgun (Browning Maxus) and a 3" BB shell. Never really thought about this before and wouldn't think it could happen but it did. Added to the days excitement. We ended up with 7 geese for the day and a lesson learned.

You'd be surprised the tong of flame that probably comes out of that gun, and the odd places it comes from.

We were having fun at camp at thanksgiving with my new cap and ball revolver, when someone suggested shooting after dark. That thing throws about a 6' fireball out the muzzle. With all the embers that were hitting the ground I realized why when the north and south fought in the wilderness they started brush fires. But I digress, very interesting and everyone should try it at some point.
