I found a really big sheephead growing at the base of a rock oak tree. But this tree is growing right in the middle of a large hemlock tree patch. Is it still alright to eat? I know it was a pain to clean with all the crap off of the hemlocks.

Thanks

Thanks, I'm new to this. I have heard that you shouldn't eat mushrooms that grow under pine trees. Another question, when are the sheepheads done for the year? I was out this morning and found anther, but it was aready pretty much a pile of mush. I did find a nice chcken though.

Don't eat chickens from conifer trees. Sheepshead near conifer should be fine. As far as when they are done? You will keep finding them until the ground freezes. I found 11 yesterday that need more time. Too dry here in NEPA. I did find a shopping bag full of big fresh chickens.
