I have a 12 ga. Shattuck Side Snap shotgun..late 1800's,, early 1900's Does anyone know if this was made to shoot black powder shotgun shells.. or am I OK shooting modern low brass shtogun shells out of it? I googled this shotgun.. and cannot find any info stating that this was made for the old style black powder shotgun shells.

I have never shot this shotgun yet..and want to see if this was made to shoot black powder shotgun shells only.

Any info on this gun would be appreciated. Thanks!

They were made by Iver Johnsn I think. A good gunsmith should be able to tell you id it can be safely fired with modern ammo.

Shattuck merged with Iver Johnson, to produce handguns. I have not seen a Shattuck shotgun that wasn't a Damascus barrel. No way I would shoot smokeless factory ammo. Specially prepared reloads after a Gunsmith's bill of health only.
