SGL057

Does anybody hunt SGL 057? I saw a camp for sale near there and was wondering if it is worth a closer look. It is just West of the windmills. The closest town I think would be Noxen. Looks like there aren't a lot of camps in that area. might be an advantage. I know some areas of WMU 3B can be really hit or miss as far as deer that's why I ask.
Thanks

Thanks for the report. I was up top of Henry Lott this week and the snow drifts were kind of neat. Deer moving around a lot on top. But did not hear the frogs yet. However there were egg masses in a few vernal pools. Seen a set of bear tracks but been seeing them just about all winter. Hare are moving from swamp to swamp so the males must be on the move. This late snow should fill the headwaters back up and the natives might stand a chance at a better recovery than I expected.
May head up to the valley on your side Sunday. Need to drop off paperwork in Forkston and might just let the dogs stretch their legs a bit, maybe find a shed or two. Waugh!

got a beast this morning
That's a toad. Did you weigh or measure it?

It was a solid 23 inch fish. They say a 24 inch bass is around 8.2 pounds give or take some.

I think it would be even more later in the year. My son caught a 23.5 incher a couple summers ago that was super fat. Eating bluegills will pack the pounds on.

He should have taken it to the Susky and released it. That fish would have been a 15 pounder by the end of April with all the trout from the 'Hoop and Bowman's that are in the river!

We released it back into our own lake so we could catch it again. It probably came from Lake Jean in 2015, when they drained it. We have so many bluegills and yellow perch in the lake that the bass never go hungry. In the evening, when the lake is calm, you can see acres-big schools of bluegills on the surface. As far as the eye can see.

It was released to be caught again
We took measurements and pictures of my son's and had a replica made. Seltzer can to give it some scale.

Sad note from the Mehoopany Creek Watershed Association dissolving after their current projects are complete. The age of current officers and lack of interest for key positions were the reason. Anyone who trout fishes the North Branch or South Branch knows the great work the MCWA has done for the past 23 years. One last Trout Day Opener at Forkston Four Corners from 8-noon for conversation, reminiscing and the traditional offerings of hot dogs, cookies, coffee and MCWA merchandise.
Any money left in the MCWA will be donated to the North Branch Trout Derby Association, Creek Junction Park and the Community Center of Mehoopany.

Walleyes in the Susky?
If they do bite you can’t keep them till may 6 I think but that would be cool
We have caught them in April before
Are you giving it a go that weekend? Not sure when I'm heading up next. When we get some nice weather. As much as gas and tolls are these days, I pick and choose my weekends. Also, I think I paid $6.40 a gallon for heating oil last time. Don't want to run the heat on a cold weekend. :D
Yea I’ll be fishin all that weekend. I turn 37 on the 16th I’ll also be knocking on some doors around the area up there to try a get a spot for turkey for my daughter an I. There is some properties I drive my all the time up there an see turkeys so I wanna see if I can get some permission. We shall see.

Yep. Still see the guys out running their dogs.
Ended not going Sunday but I did hit your side at the pheasant stocking area yesterday (24th) Ran the pot lickers and ran some rabbits. Big surprise no ticks. Bigger surprise no birds, I mean not even song birds.
Hoop looked nice, bit fast but clear as it gets in that area. Headed down Sugar hollow and noticed there was still snow up on the ridge line of South Mt.
Started hearing the peepers on this side of the SGL. Waugh!

Not much snow or ice this winter so the river looks calm. It rises and falls on what is happening up NY more than the local weather. Crossed the Tunkhannock bridge one day and it was down and clear the next day it was muddy but not up much. Local rain will melt what is left on the hills and the river will rise and fall quick. Waugh!
