If your seat heaters are hot enough to harm seat covers, you would not be sitting on them. My wifes car has seat heaters, they will let you know when to turn them off because you butt gets hot,but it wouldn't melt seatcovers. If they would harm seatcovers, it would harm you leather upolstery.

I have vinyl covers on the truck's front seats and some kind of a fabric stuff on Maw's Edsel(Saturn Vue). They don't get near hot enough even on high to do anything other than keep your butt warm!

If you don't have them already WeatherTech mats are worth their weight in gold keeping the carpets clean.
